Greetings, colleagues!

Meghan DelaneyThe AABB Annual Meeting has been a cornerstone of my professional journey. As I reflect on my career, I can trace nearly every milestone and professional achievement to connections or insights gained through this event. Every year, I look forward to attending the AABB Annual Meeting with anticipation and excitement. There’s always something valuable in store for attendees—from education sessions, to focused networking events, to new learning opportunities, and much more. One highlight for me is reconnecting with long-time colleagues and meeting new faces. The experience fills my cup, and I always leave feeling inspired for the year ahead.

Because we pour so much of ourselves into our work, it’s important to take time to recharge, show up for ourselves and support one another. During the 2025 AABB Annual Meeting in San Diego, attendees will have myriad opportunities to celebrate their colleagues' accomplishments, sharpen their knowledge and discuss issues pertinent to the field of transfusion medicine and biotherapies in a safe, collaborative space. The exchange of knowledge within our global community will inspire you, challenge you and spark new ideas.

Exploring Emerging Technologies

This issue of AABB News focuses on the technology that is helping to advance transfusion medicine and biotherapies. In the first feature, researchers explore the practical application of machine learning or other artificial intelligence algorithms being applied to transfusion prediction. The second article examines the impact of virtual reality in transfusion training, highlighting the United Kingdom’s NHS Blood and Transplant’s (NHSBT) innovative blood identification and crossmatching apps. In the third feature, two blood centers discuss the evolution of technology and how artificial intelligence is reshaping donor recruitment strategies.

In addition, this issue features an interview with Steven Armstrong, DHA, MT(AMT), SBB(ASCP), FACHE, chair of AABB’s Annual Meeting Education Committee. Read the article to learn more about this year's highlights and what attendees can expect from the event. I urge you to register by July 30 to save up to $300 on regular-rate, full-meeting registration and gain early access to hotels and events.

I’d truly love to hear your thoughts about the Annual Meeting. Feel free to drop me a line at president@aabb.org. I look forward to seeing you in San Diego!
